| STORY FROM WILLIAMSON DAILY NEWS 9-18-02 BY CHARLOTTE SANDERS - SENIOR WRITER. A 20 foot modular layout of the East Williamson Railroad Yard and a related area in the Goody, Kentucky section is being assembled by the creator in the lobby of the First National Bank. Vernon French, of Bushkill, PA. and Staten Island, NY, arrived in Williamson Sunday and is staying at the Sycamoer Inn while putting together the many sections and components of the spectacular layout. He volunteered to resassemble the layout and came here through cooperation of the WDN and the Museum Board. He expects to be here for the remainder of the week. Raymond Scites, President of the FNB, agreed to have the layout displayed in the bank lobby. Some very important pieces of the layout are missing, having been borrowed in the past 10 years since French donated the $11,000 display to the people of Williamson. "If anyone knows the whereabouts of, a Y6B locomotive that was in the original display, it would be great for this item to be brought to me at the FNB as soon as possible", French said. A section crucial to the layout is a long extension of the Pond Creek railroad bridge and the armature for the moutnain structure in the display. These are missing and French requests they be returned to him at the bank. |
